Exhibition Text

Somewhere between the town and the point at which the ‘landscape’ begins is an ambiguous area like our own recalled adolescence. Intersection is a pictorial narrative of the contradiction that characterises this uneasy borderland – of boredom and the urge to action.

The intersection, of the exhibition title, appears in numerous works. It suggests a future beyond the scene in the painting, one inexorably linked to the events taking place in the here and now. The artist moves between descriptive, ‘accurate’ scenes of young men standing in the road watching, waiting, and less defined, more painterly impressions of movements, roadways and predatory intention.
