Jenny Smith draws inspiration from the natural environment in her latest Totem Tower series. Abstracted patterns of nature are translated “into glass and compared, by analogy, to the textures of our lives.” (1)
The transparency of glass is fundamental to the drama and inherent material beauty of Smith’s work. Shifting light is captured, energised and suffused; magnificent colour resonates and irideses across rippled glass surfaces. The impressive sculptural scale magnifies and elevates the implied sense of strength, solidity and timelessness of her cast glass and aluminium towers.
