The primary motif of this compelling suite of new works in Always from Here by Chris Heaphy is that of native birds all looking left towards the light standing atop a jardinière, feather or single flower, silhouetted against an animated, abstracted background (which functions a lot like stained-glass).
Characteristically playing with scale and shifting context, past and present time, knowing and unknowing, exploring notions of identity and layering the picture's planes considerably, these works simultaneously contain multitudes and conceptual depth yet maintain a zen-like equilibrium.
