The vessels in this exhibition by Garry Nash represent his significant contribution to glasswork in this country. These are works from the artist’s Private Collection and they represent the various explorations and phases of the artist’s career.
The work of Garry Nash is known for a bold use of highly expressive colour, as well as the inclusion of various unique textural applications. For example, the cane inclusions in the Red Murrine Vessel. This is reminiscent of Venetian glass and the mille fiori techniques that were employed in the late 1800s into the 1900s in Europe.
The Blue and Gold Vessel has an overlay of precious metal at the opening, and this is a splendid contrast with the matt indigo blue texture of the rest of the vessel.
Nash has an international reputation for his methods, and for the unique quality of the pieces he produces. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of history.
