Ruth Allen sculpts forms with glass.
She challenges perceptions and traditions, building structures which are punctuated with space.
Contradictions abound, inter-dimensional language is established. Her work has physical presence, emotional content, moods and expressions. Shadow is used as an integral element that moves and changes.
The works in “Parallel Lives – Synergetic Series” are founded in the Venetian techniques of hot glass canes. Ruth Allen creates linear patterns and colour alterations in tubes and then through a process of manipulation pulls and twists these forming organic shapes and cellular structures. The rhythms of repetition and the sensations of drawing in space arise. She uses gravity and volume, form and formlessness, knits randomness.
